Jimmy Carter in his homebase Nashville.
The CMT ratings were up ... the music was crazier than ever! It was must see TV ... you had to watch to see what was going to be on next!
After watching Eric Church blow the roof off the Bridgestone, more than a few questioned what direction IS Country music going in?
Watching the CMT show would hardly give you a guide. Is Country audience as wild and that party-driven really? Is life one big Saturday night fraternity party at Ole Miss? Part of life, of course, but the Bro Country life style is the rage. So we rock on!
Talked to a lot of artists this week ...Thomas Rhett said it simply ... There are two kinds of music ... good and bad. He is right, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder!
Little Big Town ... what a set piece on the CMT's! I like Lady A more every year ... Hunter Hayes is maturing; his stage show and will get hotter and hotter in the next year.
This is George Strait goodbye weekend ... Why is this event not on pay-per-view or live TV? Why? Because it would truly mean he is going away.
If my buddy Erv and others left those millions on the table, they had a really good reason. Mainly, he is not really going away ... 18 months he will be back on stage if not before.
This week you see everyone. Tim and Faith kissed at the LP Field show and got the crowd fired up ... Sara Evans always looks great ... Billy Ray owned that event in 1992 and was back. After a 19-year rest, Alabama was back and in perfect form.
So many new people. You feel sad that they can't get a wider chance to play on the air. Krystal Keith is a nice young lady, well spoken and can sing.
Dan and Shay are nice ... heck, Cassadee Pope is nice ... all the new kids on the block are nice. Dustin Lynch, Haley and Michaels so many ... too many.
Nashville character Juliet Barnes is pregnant ... not on TV, but in real life ... big hmmmmm ... how do the writers handle this one?
Randy Travis looked good and healthy this week, visiting Dolly Parton at a show in Oklahoma. He looked in good spirits best since he had the near-death experience.
Interviewing Justin Moore and Motley Crue's Vince Neil was a one-of-a-kind visit. Two very different men in too many regards to mention. Tyler Farr hanging with his friend from the Chicago Bulls, #21 Jimmy Butler ... Never know who you will see in Nashville.
Alan Jackson is not retiring. News conference brought that and a big 25th anniversary show out. The Hall of Fame will have an Alan Jackson exhibition Aug 19th. He is an original.
Just saw a great tweet: Let's Go Manila! Haven't seen that from a Country artist ... Taylor Swift not at CMA fest due to her RED tour of the Far East.
Big & Rich still have it ... energy and enthusiasm!
The CMA Music Fest is over the top ... it's huge ... complex and goes on forever ... 7 full days really. The weather is always goofy and the fans grow more tame. Yes, they do seem tame ... maybe it's just tired!
