Jimmy Carter in his homebase Nashville.
The media business is a killer! NYT editor blown out this week ... with no notice ... some big-time local radio folks blown out of jobs ... artist Randy Houser files for divorce. Jay Z gets mauled by his sister-in-law.
Only the strong survive! Big turnovers at some of the Nashville tour booking places. Big money and high pressure. Eight million paid to the producers of Nashville to make sure they make Nashville in Nashville not Baton Rouge or Atlanta.
So hard to get started and so hard to stay up on the board and ride the wave.
Brad Paisley starts his tour today ( May 16) and will dodge heavy rains. The weather is just one of the unpredictable in this business. Health: Look at Craig Morgan ... he had surgery this week for torn tendons and had some screws added to several bones. Too many motocross wrecks. Show cancellations added to his woes..
Nothing is easy. Relationships: personal and professional. Competition. You see that this weekend play out in Las Vegas at the Billboard Music Awards on ABC-TV.
The Grammy block party this week was a chance for the Grammy folks to get some new members and a chance for some of us to see some new talent. I was so impressed with www.forkingandcountry.com . A pair of Nashville-living Aussies singing Christian rock with a show better than Imagine Dragons! Who carries chimes and a bass drum from a marching band on the road? They have a great show ... So much energy....
Another group Vintage Trouble ... L.A.-based blues rock band ... like a 2014 version of Wilson Pickett and the Memphis Stax band. Martina had horns and backup singers for her Everlasting set ... it was FUN!
Chris Young ... I heard a lot of bass ... Kasey Musgraves always seems too perfect.
More award shows ... two in the next few weeks ... first Billboard ,then CMT.
Hunter Hayes worked very hard to get his #1 CD this week ... Rascal Flatts working the phones, TV, radio ... everything to get some numbers for their Rewind album.
Darius got Kenny Rogers for his big charity show in Nashville June 2nd...
Next weekend the monster outdoor festivals come to the South. Baton Rouge and Tunica, Mississippi. Summer is here ... Off to see Godzilla!
