Jimmy Carter in his homebase Nashville.
Have you watched ticket sales for concerts fly out the window this week? 70,000 for the ACM event in Texas next year ... two sell-outs for Zac Brown at Fenway Park Boston!... Paul McCartney announcing a Southern segment of his new tour and I got the last one at pre-sale ... $278.56 after fees and taxes....
Somebody out there in concert creation land has to be very happy! Is there an infinite amount of money for events like this in our own budgets ... NO! But we seem to find money for what we want to find money for. That money had to come from some future outing.
The ticket thing still stinks. Always drama about getting your ticket for some events. They will mail them 14 days before show. WHY? That's crazy ... and the paperless ticket thing is nuts, too. Who is that helping? Someone buys a ticket ... gives it to their child because you can't go and that ticket is NO GOOD. Non-transferable ... that is awful. The customer gets hosed in all these scenarios. Building your business around making it as difficult as possible for fans is not good business. Payback is tough ...
The ACM ticket explosion is impressive. 70,000 for an awards show? Long way from the ACM show I went to at the Disney Studios not that many years ago. Look at that organization on a graph! Impressive and they must be very proud. Bob Romeo has always had a good team and that team with Dick Clark's people have a tiger by the tail! Buck would be in awe!
Glen Campbell going into an Alzheimer's care facility should not surprise anyone, but it's still sad. Glad we got to see him one more time on tour. Proud family that has done a lot of good for public awareness of this cruel disease. I watched my mother walk these same steps and it is so hard on the famil,y too. I just hope Glen is comfortable. Kim and the children have been very strong.
The newest members of the Country Music Hall of Fame to be announced April 22nd. Always dramatic. Not going to guess, but they are very behind and can never catch up. So many deserve their plaques on that rotunda wall. Politics plays such a roll. But that's life. Need to honor people's great work while they are alive. They need to know how important their contributions are and were.
What a great new and improved CMHOF ... nothing short of amazing. So much pride from the dreamers who imagined they could raise $100 million and get it all done in three years. Crazy but they did it ... It is a must-see place for any Country music fan. That was true a year ago and even more so now!
Miley Cyrus just cancelled her Nashville show ... been a sick girl this week. She is such a disappointment in how she has run her career ... still, I don't want anyone's child to be sick and hope she is back full speed in a few days. I'm disappointed that parents helped make her career early on and she took that trust that a performer who plays to children gets and just spit on it. She isn't a role model for anything nor did she sign up to be one. Still, how can she be proud of what she does these day? A raunchy version of Lady Gaga is maybe popular ... but sad.
Glad Spring is here ... The Winter doldrums are over ... the sun and pollen are here ... Can't wait to see McCartney even at 250 bucks...hoo rah!
