Jimmy Carter on the road
Sirius in trouble? I could see that coming, as they pushed for lifetime contracts and took over XM. I hate that. Pandora is killing them ... jJust to name one thing!
The Grammys are as always a fascinating six hours when you add the pre show. I was thrilled for Brad Paisley (won two) and amazed at the Plant/Krauss five-time score. The Grammys are always crazy and that doesn't seem to change. Watch the pre-show with Native American, Spoken Word, Hawaiian ... music all of it. How they keep all the factions happy is that they don't .The Chris Brown exit created a very good Al Green segment. That can happen more often! All rappers get into fights and miss the show. The superstar rap event was unlistenable. The Four Tops salute sounded canned but I thought was wonderful.
The ACM nominations were equally odd. No album nominations yet due to floating rules on the subject. Hmmm.... Five for Heidi, who I love very much, but it was unusual.
Vegas is fun and the ACMs are so much more fun than the CMAs! Let's just leave it at that.
The economy trumps everything and anything right now. Both political parties seem to be like a great jazz recording -- jamming and free-styling, making it up as they go along some well-charted courses. I love the love for the stars of the political circus, but this crew seems as goofy as the last. It sure as the school kids wanting to graduate into the music business freaked out. Jobs in any media seem few and far between ... some radio and TV factories are quickly become slave shops! It is UGLY!
We need the car dealers back in radio; gas can't go back to $4 but it's heading up again ... SCREAM! HELP! Big O, fix this mess! You said you could, and I'm still hopeful and even prayerful.
Everyone just needs to stay positive. Help your friends who lost their jobs retool/reeducate/find work. Buy music. Talk sense into these folks selling $150 concert tickets.
