What You Are Wearing ... Not What You Are Singing!

Jimmy Carter in his homebase Nashville.
The crush of the press was not inside the Staples Center or The Nokia ... it was the red carpet ... More and more music award shows are becoming fashion runways.
The gang of photogs and camera crews falling over each other, crammed in tighter than olives in a jar just to get a peak at Taylor's gown or The Mumford's shoes.
This is a fairly recent occurrence. The music crowd used to just dress kookie. Now it's top designers all the way.
It may not be a bad thing but it is a different thing. The stars are getting less media-friendly overall ... mostly because there is too much media. What star in its right mind wants to do one-on-ones with 500 people? A line that stretches the length of a football field for the CMAs and Grammys.
The stars mostly feel like they don't want or need anything but the still photo of their latest Paris concoction. Nothing stays the same.
How legit are the awards? The Grammys and Oscar seem the most legit ... Legit, though, is in the eyes of the legitimate.
Per Kenny Chesney for example:
I think it's a complete disrespect of the artist -- what they've lowered us to, to get Entertainer of the Year because of that, it really diminishes the integrity of the music that we're making and how much work goes into it. That's what really matters. That's what Entertainer of the Year really is. It's not about flying somebody to some shows and giving free songs away -- and giving this and that -- and seeing how hard you can push people's buttons on the Internet.
HMMMM ... now one of the guys in Zac Brown's band...
"Normally, in all of the Country awards shows that we go to, we end up going zero. We were up for 60 awards and I think we won like four or something, because we're not really a part of the politics or the cliques in Nashville. There's a lot of vote trading and all sorts of stuff going on. That's what makes me think higher of the Recording Academy because I feel like people are voting with their real conscience."
Awards are infomercials for movies and music and whatever else is being awarded ... It's a win-win for bosses and their talents. A big game ... like Wheel of Fortune...
So exciting when someone gets their first award nomination and depressing when the nominations stop coming in. Live by the sword and die by the sword.
They are a fact of career life. They evolve into fashion shows and soon to social media sounding boards.
Tweeting from NASCAR drivers or Grammy show hosts. Better get with the changes ... Roll with the flow ... Don't bitch about the change just adapt!
Just don't feel that Beatlesque excitement over award shows, but you watch because they are there.
