Jimmy Carter in his homebase Nashville.
That headline courtesy of Paul "Bear" Bryant, one of the great college football coaches of all time. Nick Saban knocking on that door at Alabama with his most current championship win against Notre Dame. So much to be learned from winners.
You learn from losers, too, but winning is so much more fun!Passion, preparation, the ability to adapt when facing adversity ... all ingredients for a winning recipe in the entertainment business too.
The best managers and artists are the most passionate and prepared. They are students who learn and never stop learning and growing. Lord knows that goes for true program gurus and on-air people. Lazy and success are strangers.
I graduated from the University of Alabama and I am proud of my school. As a reporter I often volunteered to work on weekends for my TV station sports department. I would work the game the main sports guy didn't want to work ... I would get Alabama and the Bear for Vanderbilt and a few more. He was scary and impressive. A winner with a growl and mumble I will never forget.
Next time you see singers like Chesney, Paisley, McGraw and most others, remember they spent so many years making just about NO money. They paid their dues. Just like those Alabama players. All those folks spent most of their waking hours training and studying and practicing. Rewarded in the end with championships/Number Ones/Grammys ... various kinds of crystal trophies.
Do your homework and study Nick Saban's PROCESS of winning. It can easily be transferred to broadcasting and everything else. Attention to detail, relentless preparation.
The year is barely a few days old and Taylor Swift owns the headlines. Another crash-and-burn love affair. Hate that for her. Read what the British are saying ... tabloids in U.S., too. She is an old soul in a young girl's body!
Battling albums involving Tim McGraw ... Two in two weeks just ahead. How long is that mess going to keep going? Like a bad marriage in a custody fight.
The little fairs and festivals around the country want to book some Country acts this year but can't even afford the baby acts. I hear groups like Foreigner/Styx and others are getting the work because Country acts have priced themselves out of the game! Been a problem and is a problem.
Brad Paisley a big hit on Jimmy Kimmel this week. If you missed his Honey Boo Boo video, find it on YouTube. Laugh-out-loud funny! Brad is like the last to announce his tour schedule for 2013. But that is coming as is his new album, "Wheelhouse"... went to Urban Dictionary to get the modern definitions:
wheelhouse
area of expertise, a particular skill;
as an alcoholic, a beer drinking contest is right in my wheelhouse.wheelhouse
In baseball this is the part of an individual's swinging range in which as a hitter they can make the best contact with the ball. If a pitch is right in your wheelhouse it is right where you want it, in the spot where you have the best chance of hitting it well.
The term is also often used to explain something that falls into a person's area of expertise.
ESPN: "Konerko can hit the ball 500 ft. if it's pitched right in his wheelhouse."
Child 1: "How can we get this hot girl to take her clothes off?"
Child 2: "Ask Hugh Heffner, that's right in his wheelhouse."wheelhouse
Anything that can be acted on with confident success.
I'm guessing it originates from the fact that a wheelhouse is the room on the bridge of a ship where you steer from, providing you with clear view & control to steer the situation.
Have the handsome guy address that roomful of female sales potentials; it's right in his wheelhouse.
