Jimmy Carter in his homebase Nashville.
Fall is the best time of the year, but the early Fall on Music Row is hardly Times Square at noon.
Summer tour season is winding down and the CMAs are six-plus weeks away.
Hollywood is holding back this time of year, too, as the big releases won't come until the first week of November.
Is that going to be a crazy first 10 days or what? The Presidential election, CMAs, New 007 film and new Spielberg film, "Lincoln."
Reality show overload very evident this week ... "X Factor" vs. "The Voice" vs. "America's Got A Good Dog Trainer." Three nights a week for "The Voice" is a HUGE overload. NBC could tear up an iron ball. They are going to keep over exposing this show and it will be poooooof ... gone!
Read the Canadian radio trades about consolidation going on up there. As a lot of people in a wad!
The evolving listener landscape and the aging radio talent
Is such a hot potato, I'm not going to touch that ... at least not for now. The roll of consolidation in the avail jobs for future radio stars to learn is paying out in a bad way right now and more so in five years. Bad rock jocks running Country stations may turn into an historic disaster for a format.
Take a look at the artists coming along to fit into the pre-chewed radio formats. You get a rebel like an Eric Church and they clean the polluted waters. Country pretenders will only cause Country music as we know it to evolve into something else, like Americana.
Being popular and having a huge mainstream audience is great. Great stars with so much talent at the top. The lack of great Country females is very curious. They exist. They just don't get a shot.
Everything goes so fast. Is radio really competing with iPods or have people run off to the iPod to get away from commercial breaks that are endless and radio shows that just literally phone it in.
Too much syndication ... too little talent ... too many commericals ... voodoo ratings services ... a hungry audience. The seasons are changing and you better take a jacket along for this next season.
Don't let people who can't do it themselves tell you how to do it. The rules have always been simple. If you don't have a feel for the road ... park the car.
