Jimmy Carter in his homebase Nashville.
What do Taylor Swift and Donna Summer have in common? A lot actually ... more than you would ever think, in fact.
Both chose Nashville as their home. Both have seen the highest high in the pop charts worldwide and both have felt the love of the Country music family.
Donna Summer was hypnotized by Music City. I had Donna and Bruce in my car in the mid-'90s on 17th Avenue showing them around. She was so interested and curious. Kind, classy and beautiful.
She picked the city to raise her family and base out for tours ... like so many others who call the Nashville area home. It is a special place often taken for granted if you live here full-time.
Donna was on the board of the Country Music Hall of Fame for a while in the 2000s. Taylor just gave that Hall $4 million dollars for an education center.
Both wrote songs in a man's world on 16th and 17th Ave. Gaining respect with their actions and their word. Both were cheerleaders of this town that is so deep with song.
Both women deserve great respect. Donna's music will live on forever. Go look at the Billboard airplay and sales charts for 1979. Se owned that year ... owned it.
Taylor is mostly in Los Angeles these days putting together he new album. She will never be Loretta Lynn country nor has she ever pretended to be. She is Taylor Swift, a modern-day Joni Mitchell and then some. She swims in a sea of sharks and lives to swim some more. I wish people would give her the respect she has earned in every way you can. Hats of to Taylor for that gift to the Hall. Largest individual gift EVER to the Hall of Fame.
Summer eve ... always a sweaty crazy time in Nashville. Let's hope it's a good one. June 2nd the big show goes out ... Tim and Kenny. Taylor sits this year out...
Facebook made Bono $750 million this week. Has anyone ever really clicked on a Facebook ad? On purpose? How can a company that has no customer service and seemingly zero input from its customers be bigger than Disney? It is very hard to imagine this having a happy ending. I don't see it..Short-term gain ... long-term pain..
Go to iTunes and check out those Donna Summer songs ... great to hear them again ... been a long time..
