Eric Trips Over His Tongue

Sometimes it's not what you say ... it's how you say it. Did Eric Church find that out the hard way or what?

With F-bombs in hand, Eric went fully automatic this week in Rolling Stone. He must have felt very comfortable walking into the blades of that fan.

Eric lit up the night with F-bombs on TV talent shows, old people, and various other thorns in his saddle.

The tone was harsh and the print was cold. It didn't come off well to those who felt wounded in the spray.

Like a cotton-mouth moccasin in the creek, the ever-social media vigilant Miranda Lambert struck back. That got her defense forces stirred up and soon it was "get the publicist out of bed and let's put this fire out."

It was a teaching moment I hope for all. Watch your mouth when you are talking to the print media. It comes up a lot harder in ink.

Think before you speak comes to mind. Don't write checks with your mouth that you don't plan on cashing. If you say it ... stand by it. It looks wimpish to back off if you are going to be so bold and brash in the first place. Came off like one of those "wap wap" dogs. Stand and fight if you pick one.

Okay, didn't think out who might get pissed off at what you are saying? It can happen to and has happened to us all.

Eric is actually an artist and not a game show contestant. He would probably do this as a calling, but it helps now that he's getting good pay. He goes out into a forest to write and find inspiration. That's cool and so not what most people do these days.

Eric Church has substance. It might not be your substance, but he has substance. He might be a little brash but it's a nice mix alongside so much of this "cotton candy country" that is out today.

We need a little Johnny and Waylon in our lives ... less of this pre-chewed, franchise sound that is boring many of us to question why we ever got interested in this genre of music.

The answer is simple: Buck, Johnny, Loretta, Tammy, Hank, Roy, Alan, Dwight,, Sonny James, Willie, Ray Price, Asleep at the Wheel and dozens more. The real deals. Roy Orbison, Dolly Parton, the basic-training Country stars.

Eric Church screwed up talking too much. He learned and lives to talk another day.

I like "Idol" ... confused by "The Voice" and never got into "The X Factor" at all. But all are ways into a business that has no talent scouts and fewer good ears.

Just because you got to town on a talent show should be beside the point. It's what you do when you get their attention. Carrie Underwood has done pretty well.

Eric Church is still learning ,but I'm glad he is out their swinging. Shows ambition. The best home run hitters in baseball strike out a lot. Just the way it is.
