Jimmy Carter in his homebase Nashville.
It doesn't really matter to me ... BUT ... The producers of "American Idol" disturbed the FORCE this week. Is the Country vote on "Idol" now the overwhelming force? Might be ... meanwhile, cries of that show is rigged! Heard again..
This show is taken very seriously by many millions and when things get cuckoo, like they did this week, the fans get riled up.
Isn't it envious that a TV show has held the pulse of the consumers so strongly? "The Voice" is trying to get there, but remains too muddy and confusing. Too many contestants. When you do get to like someone, they get blown up. On "Idol," they get the 20 or so hooked on you and like a good book. they reel out the story.
Jessica Sanchez may be one of the show's best singers ... technically. She's like a young Ella or the overused comparison to Whitney. She is not commercial in the pop sense ... maybe jazz. (The Pia fiasco still has me mad ... in fact, I stopped believing at all this was a legitimate show when that blew up.)
Jessica is young but a star in some galaxy.
This Country star in the making, Skylar Laine, has evolved but will have to execute Hollie Cavanaugh. Holly's time will come as will Elise. Skylar's in the top three.
Will "Idol" go Country again? That will confuse the Hollywood types in a big way ... or maybe they can't stop it? Stay tuned and watch the ratings grow as long as Skylar and Hollie are around ... It's going to be a gal at the end of that "Idol" road this year ... has the story already been written?
"The Voice" without Blake would just bore me. He keeps me engaged but I have to try too hard to work through the format ... The spinning chairs are great but after that it's just too muddy. This "Duet" show coming and Howard Stern's "America's Got Talent" and John Rich's show and on and on and on ... Too many talent shows.
The Lionel Richie success story ought to concern radio ... simple as that. Radio didn't want to play and the project becomes a big hit despite radio. Should radio as a concept really be a "work around" thing?
Sugarland is going to come out alright on this stage collapse legal drama. Too many things went wrong that day/night and too many people screwed up. Like "Idol," people want winners and losers. Underdogs and champions. The people and media of Indianapolis want someone to hang that tragedy on. Sugarland had some bad legal PR during this. Let's see how it plays out. The insurance companies will work out a settlement. It's hard to imagine this case going to a massive trial.
Twitter is great ... if you are missing out on this, you are just plain missing out. Facebook could go and I would live. Twitter is useful! Even Merle Haggard got in the swim this week. The key is to follow people that you can learn and get information from.
The Facebook finding your neighbor from high school is a cool factor, though. Getting a bunch of radio alumni from a station is fun. WHHY (Y-102)/Montgomery has one of those groups and it' been nice looking back.
Martina McBride is going to get a good ride off this theater tour she has begun. Great early reviews. Fans are seeing a personal, intimate show.
Like the North Korean's missile launch, the huge exploding career of hot pants coach Bobby Petrino. That has been like a bad episode of a prime time soap!
