Jimmy Carter in his homebase Nashville.
What's with all the fussing and fighting these days swirling around some Country artists?
Let's list the Country stinks of last week:
The Ashton Kutcher is he making fun of Country music moment on the ACMs.
Kellie Pickler sings a real Country song on "Idol" and becomes a trending topic with very negative feedback.
The not-so-Country song "Good Girl" kicking off the ACM awards.
The school in Massachusetts that took GOD out of "God Bless the USA." Relyric-ed We Love the USA.
That's the short list ... Country music can get you into a brawl ... Kellie Pickler on "Idol" became a trending topic with more than a few gagging at the sound of Country music ... one saying it makes my ears bleed!
The ratings for the ACMs were pretty good ... CBS won the night....It was not a 41 million like the Grammys, but won the night with 13 million. "The Voice" is still hanging in there with a strong 18-49 viewing audience. "Dancing" and "Idol" still double the audience of "The Voice."
Country is not for everyone, just like heavy metal, and Rap music isn't for everyone...
The awards shows are trying so hard to snag that crossover audience. KISS and LL Cool J on the ACM show. I didn't mind but some people do. Starting out the show with the non-Country song, "Good Girl," was a trap to get those non-Country fans to stay and watch. Hopefully it worked.
That whole what is and isn't Country debate rages more than ever.
Garth Brooks, who was nearby at the Wynn, was not on the ACMs, but he is going to Calgary for a big show in July. Huge surprise. He just felt like saying yes instead of no for a change.
The weather in all its forms keep getting in the headlines ... this week those tornadoes in the greater Dallas area. Eighteen-wheelers flying in the sky! I listened to the weather coverage LIVE with my iPhone app, TuneIN Radio. A free app ... WBAP was the anchor chain but the other Cumulus/Dallas stations simulcast their coverage. It was fantastic! WBAP is one of the few stations in the historical class with WSM/Nashville. WBAP did everything right. They were calm, immediate, fact-based. Used phone calls from eyewitnesses as well as paid staffers to cover the wide-ranging and fast-moving storms. Cumulus owns that pod and I hope they are proud of what they did!
