Nashville: The Primetime Drama

Jimmy Carter in his homebase Nashville.
A real primetime major budget TV show ... Nashville from ABC Studios/Lionsgate/Gaylord Entertainment.
Hmmm ... Not a reality show ... like Revenge? A Grey's Anatomy kind of TV show? I guess. It's listed in pilot season as a drama.
Now Miami Vice once changed Miami forever ... CBS's Dallas did the same. Shows with city names in the title have mixed results. Chicago Hope, Detroit 182 on the down side ... NYPD Blue, LA Law on the other. There was a Nashville Beat cop show and it was pretty horrible.
Described as a family soap set (Dynasty was one of these) set against the backdrop of the Nashville music scene revolving around one star on the way up and one on the way down. (Country Strong) Hmmm ... again.
The obvious positives for the business are clear. Chances to get music in primetime ... cameos of stars.
Plugs for the city. Depends on how much money they have and how they use the stars. Worth trying and I hope they don't embarrass us here. Hollywood has gotten Nashville wrong mostly! Altman's Nashville -- YUK ... It needs some sex and violence to make it in post-8p CT primetime. It better try to be something special or it won't be around very long ... Playboy Club got yanked so fast the stars hardly had time to unpack their bags. I wish them luck ... They will need a major dose of it. MOST shows on network TV FAIL ... But if you don't try, you never win, right?
I'm so bummed that Davy Jones died. The youngest Monkee and a great guy. He really knew how to be a star. Handled it so well and was gracious. Wasn't sick. Sounded great. Was don't a dope head or drunk. Lived clean on a farm. As one writer mourned this week: If Davy Jones is dead how far away are we? A sobering week indeed. I did pay a buck-29 and downloaded "Daydream Believer." It sounded and sounds GREAT ... Get the Rhino mix; it sounds cleaner.
Is it just me or do you ever get almost physically sick hearing about people weekly orn in some cases, daily, who lose their jobs due to consolidation? Makes me SICK!
The simple idea of Taylor Swift and Tim Tebow as a couple ... priceless!
Speaking of priceless ... radio consultants ... one minute it's this ... then one minute it's that ... please!
Faith Hill sounds and looks great. Alan Jackson the same. If we have gotten to a point where those two acts sound odd next to the other acts. The Country format has we knew and watched it become so successful is in more trouble than some think!
Martina, Rascal Flatts, Reba ... how long is my arm? Faith, Alan ... have more talent in their little fingers than 99% of these newbies I have seen so far.
It sounded SO good last weekend when Luke Bryan and Jason Aldean did an unplugged: "Love In The First Degree" and "Time Marches On." The audience ate it up ... It sounded fantastic. The real Country is still around. You just have to step over most of the record company poop to get to it ... They're chasing teen CD buyers and downloaders.
Radio needs to chase something else. It gets mixed up sometime! Corporate radio confuses everyone. NBC Radio coming back? CNN Radio going away? Everything old is new again....
