Jimmy Carter in his homebase Nashville.
You know they are lying when musicians say, "I don't care about the Grammys." It is the Oscars of the music business. The gold standard of excellence. The most prestigious honor a song or musician can get.
Greats like like Stevie Wonder and Quincy Jones own a few dozen. Diana Ross ... not even one!
Vince Gill has 27 and Alison Krauss has 26. Garth only won two! The Grammys are NOT always right! Imagine this: The Beatles only won four Grammys while they were actually together. The other even later.
ZERO for The Who, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix and The Doors.
Milli Vanilli ... need I say more? Google that one ... The Grammys are fascinating. They have changed and become more hip. I have covered most since 1984. Always memorable.
I can't get the image of Randy Travis drunk in front of a Baptist Church in an old Pontiac out of my mind. I feel sorry for him. Chet Flippo wrote about it in his CMT column this week. A great talent from almost another era.
Randy had substance problems before he was a star. I sure hope he gets this current issue under control soon! Sounds like things on the personal side aren't very stable, post-divorce.
The ACMs have their nominees for New Artist of the Year. At least they are actually NEW. (Which seems to be a problem with the CMA Horizon or whatever they call that award these days) Brantley Gilbert, Hunter Hayes, Scotty McCreery. All three are very talented. All three have a bright future.
"The Voice." So much as been said. Ratings for now are very good or great. NBC may screw things up if they add a Fall version. Once a year is enough. Networks know how to make you hate something you once loved.
Too many examples to list. Think "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" as the best example of too much of a good thing.
How much time is YouTube taking away from standard radio and TV consumption? Add Netflix and trying to figure out audiences is over-the-top complicated. So many diversions. Better have something more than a jukebox, boys, if you are trying to keep your audience!
