Jimmy Carter in his homebase Nashville.
I feel real bad for young Scotty ... He's 16 years old ... won a TV contest and sings on national TV at the drop of a hat and without a drop of sweat. He's says yes when his people tell him to be some place. And he said yes to a very dangerous career event this week. The National Anthem at the World Series. It was like a dove flying into a baited field. The guns were out.
Over 400 Google stories and probably more now ... Hollywood Reporter headline: He flubbed the lyrics.
I fought back at that initially but hearing it again and again, he did garble it in the least. It's the most dangerous song in the world. Not everyone is cut out to sing it -- especially a cappella.
That song requires a Blue Angels pilot, not someone with his new solo license. Both are pilots but hardly the same.
Managers ... all singers are different ... you are not doing your act a favor putting them in a situation like Scotty was put in!
Read the following:
The 10,000-hour rule is a theory highlighted in the best-selling title, "Outliers: The Story of Success," by Malcolm Gladwell.
The 10,000-hour rule stems from a study by one of the world's leading theoretical and experimental researchers on expertise, Anders Ericsson. The premise of the rule is that that a person will become an expert in their field after practicing their specific skill for 10,000 hours.
Scotty needs more seasoning ... he needs to find his own style ... he's a nice young man. Let's hope he gets a chance to get some of those 10,000 hours on stage before he tries singing live at the Super Bowl!
His loyal American Idol fans have been mad as hornets this week with the Scotty song reaction. That's a good thing. Get those fans pushing back for you. Again, like the young man feel bad for him. I thought he handled the mic failure with great pose. It's just a real easy place to trip up. USA Today and the Hollywood Reporter were right on top of it. Live by the sword and die by the sword when you are an American Idol person. Just the way it is.
Trace Adkins did a great job the next night and Ronnie Dunn will on Saturday ... 10,000 hours and then some, though.
Great time of the year for sports fans. You wonder why bigger stars don't take advantage of the huge audiences for these NASCAR Races? Back to the Anthem again. DANGER! You see it murdered every week by beauty queens and grocery-store contest winners.
Google "Maya Rudolph Saturday Night Live Anthem" for something real funny from a few years back. "Maya Rudolph-Anthem..."
