From The Bieber To The Blake And Beyond....

Justin Bieber got the attention a visiting pop star should get this week as he came to Middle Tennessee to shoot a Christmas video. He got squeals and shrieks ... and girls of all kinds staying up late just to get a glance ... a few got "Jingle Bells" sung to them.

Fame can be like smoke from a cigarette. Poof, it's gone ... but the Beeb is still smoking. Dimming but still glowing.

Miley and her parents ... remember them? They are back home. Hanson was here this week. It's a regular teen town and that is exactly down the road Music Row will take you if you let them.

Is Country music supposed to be the music of young America? I'm lost myself. Old people don't buy as much music as young people, so as a business you make the product the customer wants, right? From a record company viewpoint, they are doing that. From Taylor to Scotty to all the others out there, baby-faced kids singing is what has been labeled Country music.

The question someone has to ask at some point: Is this teen phase good for Country radio and its advertisers? Is the format selling cars and home repair ... or video games and zit cream? This town is changing faster than a speeding bullet, trying to find the consumer of music. Downloading, whatever and wherever it has to go. The labels are absolutely doing the right thing chasing its customer. Does radio follow the labels off the cliff? A fine tightrope to walk between Toby Keith, Alan Jackson and the Country kids. Big tent can handle a big crowd, but watch where you step!

Big premiere this week on Thursday in Franklin for "Footloose." Review next week but the feeling is positive so maybe it's a hit again ... For the actors and musicians involved, I hope so.
