Lianne La Havas
Aug 9, 2015
Lianne Charlotte Barnes, known professionally as LiAnne La Havas, is a British folk and soul singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. Born in London her career began after being introduced to singer Paloma Faith, whom she sang backing vocals for. La Havas' debut album, Is Your Love Big Enough?, was released in 2012 to positive reviews from critics and earned her a nomination for the BBC's Sound of 2012 poll and awards for the iTunes Album of The Year 2012.
After touring was completed for her first album, La Havas and her mother traveled to Jamaica. Many of the songs on her sophomore effort, Blood, were inspired by La Havas' reconnection to her Jamaican and Greek heritage.
The album was produced by Stephen McGregor and shows creative growth for the La Havas. In addition to the first focus track, "What You Don't Do," check out "Unstoppable," "Tokyo," "Midnight," "Green & Gold" and "Grow."
Of being labeled a neo-soul artist, La Havas recently told The Guardian, "I eventually want to get rid of genre. I don't think it helps. The music is what it is. The 10 tracks on my album - none of them sound the same to me. Also, I just think soul gets misused. Whatever you are singing about, you are singing about a real thing. So someone like Bon Iver could be considered a soul artist rather than folk because he plays acoustic guitar. So I would not be happy with 'neo soul'."
