Wake Owl
Jan 27, 2013
Wake Owl is the professional name for singer/songwriter Colyn Cameron and his main collaborator Aiden Briscall - but it is also full band when they tour.
Now based in Vancouver, Cameron was born and raised in Southern California. He trained in organic agriculture at Emerson College in England, worked on different farms throughout the U.K., Germany, Chile and Canada, and traveled the world. He found his journeys to be a catalyst for writing songs. Upon returning to Vancouver, Cameron spent some time playing in bands before deciding to record the songs he had written after his journey. The result is the Wild Country EP.
Wake Owl's songs are raw, honest and acoustic-based with a strong sense of lyric and melody. The entire collection is impressive, but standouts include "Gold," "You'll Never Go" and "Wild Country."
"With this EP I was really focused on just creating recordings I could be proud of and felt connected to as a group of songs. I wanted to capture and represent, in all its instrumentation and arrangement, what those songs mean to me," said Cameron.
A full album is in the works but first Wake Owl will hit the road in February for a U.S. tour. The band will perform as a four-piece, featuring Cameron (vocals, guitar, keys), Briscall (violin, electric guitar), Josh Daignault (bass, clarinet), and Andy Shauf (drums, clarinet).
