Cat Power
Oct 29, 2012
Chan Marshall (aka Cat Power) is an American singer-songwriter, musician and occasional actress and model. Cat Power was originally the name of Marshall's first band, but has come to refer to her musical projects with various backing bands.
Cat Power's sound was a mix of punk, folk and blues on her earliest albums, while elements of soul and other genres became more prevalent in her later material. Her 2012 album, Sun, incorporates a bit o' electronica as well.
On Marshall's ninth studio album, she wrote, played, recorded and produced the entirety by herself! The listener may find some similarities to her earlier work, yet there is new-found confidence in herself, her sound and her message.
In addition to the first focus track, "Cherokee," several other tracks deserve your attention including "Ruin," "Manhattan," "Silent Machine," "Peace And Love" and the title track.
"'Sun' is don't look back, pick up and go confidently into your own future to personal power and fulfillment," she said of the process in making the new album.
Marshall played at the Triple A Conference in Boulder this year. She is currently wrapping up an extensive North American tour before she heads over to Europe for some dates in late November and early December.
