Ben Howard
Jun 4, 2012
Ben Howard is an English singer-songwriter born in West London. He moved to Totnes, Devon where he still resides. He was raised by musical parents who exposed him to several of their favorite records from singer-songwriter artists from the 1960s and 1970s including Joni Mitchell and Bob Dylan, which he says has heavily influenced his music.
After short stint in college, Howard decided to focus on making music full time. He began to build up a reputation around Devon and elsewhere in the U.K., which eventually lead to a label deal. He is being released on Marcus Mumford's label, Communion, in the U.S.
His debut album Every Kingdom, has been receiving tremendous press reviews and Howard did some dates in the States earlier this year as part of a Communion label tour.
"The Wolves" is the current focus track at Triple A from Every Kingdom, but several other tracks stand out from his wonderful debut including "Old Pine" "Keep Your Head Up," "Only Love," "Black Flies" and "Promise" (was featured on the TV show "House").
"I've never found it too easy but sometimes I'm surprised how quick a song can come out," said Howard. "Often it takes a while but every now and then I need to put something down and it comes out good. I'm always questioning my songwriting, old and new, so rethinking them is almost a key part of the process. As an artist you fall in and out of love with your own songs all the time."
Howard appeared at SXSW this year and is confirmed to play at the 2012 Bonnaroo Music Festival and the Austin City Limits Festival. In addition, he has been featured on the popular YouTube channel "NoteWorthySounds." He has dates lined up in North America, the U.K. and Europe throughout the rest of the year.
