Australia’s The Avalanches -- Robbie Chater and Tony Di Blasi -- return with their third effort, We Will Always Love You. The album continues with their adept ability to blend samples and sounds in fresh and creative ways, but this time around they have brought in many guests giving the material a more song-oriented approach.
There are 25 songs on this album that features Mick Jones, Neneh Cherry, Rivers Cuomo, Denzel Curry, Kurt Vile, Perry Farrell, Karen O, Sampa the Great, Tricky, Cornelius, Kelly Moran, Cola Boyy, Orono, Blood Orange, Leon Bridges, Jamie XX, Pink Siifu, Clypso, Sananda Maitreya and Vashti Bunyan. In addition to the current focus track, “The Devine Chord,” standout tracks include “Running Red Lights,” “Wherever You Go,” “Interstellar Love,” “We Go On,” “Music Makes Me High” and the title track.
In an interview with the New York Times, The Avalanches said of We Will Always Love You, “It began with a unifying, if characteristically grand, concept: light, the cosmos and the Golden Records, the two 12-inch phonograph disks that were launched into space aboard Voyager in 1977.”
The Avalanches celebrated the album’s release with a special livestreamed DJ performance on Saturday, December 19th of last year. It took place at an iconic Melbourne institution, Curtin House. The project has received tremendous press including 4 stars from Rolling Stone and 4.5 stars from their home country’s Herald Sun.
