It’s been three years since U2’s Songs Of Innocence but now they return with their 14th studio, the juxtaposed Songs Of Experience. The lyrical approach of the album was inspired by Irish poet, novelist and Trinity College, Dublin Professor Emeritus Brendan Kennelly’s advice to Bono to “write as if you’re dead.”
The band worked with five producers on Song Of Experience -- Brent Kutzle, Kygo, Danger Mouse, Steve Lillywhite and Paul Epworth. The guest performers during the sessions included Lady Gaga and Kendrick Lamar. Standout tracks include the two singles -- “You’re The Best Thing About Me” and “Get Out Of Your Own Way “ – as well as “Lights Of Home,” “American Soul,” “Summer Of Love,” “The Blackout” and “Love Is All We Have Left.”
Bono recently told Rolling Stone, “I know U2 go into every album like it's their last one but even more this time I wanted the people around me that I loved to know exactly how I felt. So, a lot of the songs are kind of letters, letters to Ali, letters to my sons and daughters.
U2 recently performed on “Saturday Night Live,“ “Jimmy Kimmel Live” and they did a BBC special live from Abbey Road. They also recently broadcasted a special program, “The U2 Experience,” via Amazon’s Alexis platform.
Adam Clayton was recently honored by MusicCares in New York.
U2s Joshua Tree Tour 2017 grossed over $300 million dollars. U2 will be launching their Innocence + Experience Tour in spring 2018.
