Laura Marling
Mar 27, 2017
There are few artists more important to the neo-folk movement than Laura Marling. As a winner of a BRIT award for Best British Female and an NME Award for Best Solo Artist, as well as two nominates for the Mercury Music Prize, she certainly has the recognition she deserves.
Yet Marling was still searching. She moved to L.A. a few years back, ended up walking away from music for a while, and finally found her voice again with Semper Femina, her sixth LP, co-produced by Blake Mills.
My favorites on Semper Femina are “Wild Fire,” ‘The Valley,” “Always The Way,” “Nouel”” and “Next Time
In a recent interview with The National Student, she said, “We're somewhat accustomed to seeing women through men's eyes, and naturally that was my inclination to try and take some power over that, but very quickly I realized that the powerful thing to do was to look at women through a woman's eyes.”
