Girl Squad
Feb 24, 2013
The young ladies of Girl Squad have but a singular goal and dream in mind: to reach the global status of previous super-girl bands like Spice Girls, TLC and Destiny's Child. With hot songs like their debut single, "Oh Well," and their first video, an interpolation of Justin Beiber's "Boyfriend," they are well on their way to similar success.
Signed to Los Angeles-based Treasure Chest Entertainment, through a series of auditions, Girl Squad was formed in 2012 by the company CEO and their manager Reg Reg Askew. The group is comprised of three teenage girls-Millie, Maddie and Lexis-all professional singers, dancers and actors in their own right. Girl Squad is a mixture of Hip-Hop and Pop, with shades of R&B.
They rap on some tracks; sing on others. "It's a whole different flavor," exclaims Askew. "You couldn't ask for a better group of girls. It's hard to put girl groups together, and there is a void of them in the marketplace today. Many of them don't gel, but from the moment we put Girl Squad in the studio, they had a chemistry that worked immediately."
Treasure Chest Entertainment is pulling out all of the stops in order to properly introduce Girl Squad. The young ladies are slated to go on a YMCA tour in the summer of 2012. They are working with a number of hit-making writers and collaborators, including Anita McCloud (Usher's Grammy-winning hit, "U Remind Me"); Grammy-winning producer Darius "Deezle" Harrison (Lil Wayne, the Carter 3 album); and production duo 1500 or Nothin (Ceelo, Bruno Mars). Director Alastair "Gee-Lock" Christopher shot their video for "Boyfriend," which can be viewed on YouTube. Available now is a video for the single, "Oh Well" shot by Bobby Yan; while slated to be the second single is the very fun "Girls Night."
Girl Squad is also gearing up for the potential release of their single, "If These Walls Could Talk," which should separate them from the many Pop acts on the scene today. "The song is so deep," says Millie. "Our female fans will definitely relate to this song. It's going to be a game changer for us."
In development is a television show centered on Girl Squad. According to Askew, it is not your typical Nickelodeon or Disney TV show, nor is it the standard reality show. "It's very forward thinking," he says. "All of the girls are actresses, and music is at the core of the show. So, this is a natural fit for them to introduce themselves to a larger audience."
Girl Squad are on tap to be major Pop stars; prepared to show their talent on stage, on record, television and more. They may be young, but they are seasoned beyond their years; ready to take the world by storm!
