Apr 24, 2016
The Avett Brothers are an American folk rock band from Mount Pleasant, North Carolina, United States. The band is made up of two brothers, Scott Avett (banjo) and Seth Avett (guitar), as well as Bob Crawford (double bass) and Joe Kwon (cello). Mike Marsh (drums), Tania Elizabeth (violin) and Paul Defiglia (keyboard) are touring members of the band, with Kwon featured on recordings from 2007's Emotionalism and later.
Following on from Seth and Scott's former rock band Nemo, the Avett Brothers combine bluegrass, country, punk, pop melodies, folk, rock and roll, indie rock, honky tonk, and ragtime to produce a novel sound described by the San Francisco Chronicle as having the "heavy sadness of Townes Van Zandt, the light pop concision of Buddy Holly, the tuneful jangle of the Beatles, the raw energy of the Ramones."
On November 23, 2015 the band announced their fourth live album, titled Live, Vol. Four and recorded at their show of December 31, 2014 in Raleigh, would release on December 18, 2015. While touring in support of Live, Vol. Four the band continued speaking of their ninth studio album. In an interview published on March 8, 2016, Avett Brothers bassist Bob Crawford said the album would likely release in late June 2016 and was recorded as a full seven-piece group.
On March 3, 2016 the band announced their ninth full length studio album, True Sadness, is to be released June 24, 2016.
