Cady Groves is a 21-year-old singer and songwriter from Oklahoma City signed to RCA Records. She has released 3 EPs: A Month of Sundays, The Life of a Pirate, and an EP of remixes done by Breathe Electric which is available for free download on her PureVolume page.Groves landed a deal with RCA Records, which will release her major-label debut album later this year. After moving to Los Angeles, the Oklahoma native has been feverishly writing songs, which she has recorded over the past year with a variety of producers, including Kristian Lundin, Busbee, Sean Douglas, Jim Irvine and Julian Emery, and newcomers Ryan and Nolan.
Her album is shaping up to be a stellar collection of irresistible pop tunes that showcase this spirited 21-year-old's knack for writing instantly hummable melodies and brutally honest lyrics, as well as her appealingly idiosyncratic voice. The songs, which largely chronicle Groves'struggle to pick herself up and dust herself off after a break-up with a deceitful ex brim with her wry wit and spiky personality. "No other girl could sing these songs, because they're my life experiences," Groves says. "That's what I wanted. The album reeks of heartache; it's about a girl just trying to figure out life."
Growing up in a family of seven kids in tiny Marlow, Oklahoma, Cady Groves' stepdad introduced her to Styx and Lynyrd Skynyrd, while her mom favored Phil Collins and Amy Grant. But it was Alanis Morissette's Jagged Little Pill-which came out when Groves was just four years old-that inspired her to sing for the first time. "I remember my mom put the CD on in our 15-passenger van and I thought, 'Yeah, this is it.' It felt like something I could actually do. I would belt out Alanis songs in the van." Though Groves' raw and confessional indie EPs A Month of Sundays (2009) and The Life of a Pirate (2010) have earned her comparisons to Kelly Clarkson and Miranda Lambert, "This Little Girl," her major label debut single on RCA, perfectly captures the edgy spirit of Morissette's "You Oughta Know."
Groves hasn't showed any signs of letting her momentum fade, releasing a number of tracks, including her latest single, "This Little Girl." Alongside her own tracks, Groves has also peppered fans with covers of popular songs on her YouTube channel, as well as appeared as a guest vocalist on tracks with Stephen Jerzak and Plug In Stereo.
