Benee (pronounced Benny) was born Stella Rose Bennett on January 30, 2020 in New Zealand. The indie-pop performer began making music while attending high school, creating them on GarageBand and posting them on SoundCloud.
Her debut single was 2017's "Tough Guy," which was followed by the single "Soaked." Both were featured on the singer's 2019 EP Fire On Marzz. The EP performed well in her home country as well as Australia and earned Benee the Best Solo Artist Best Pop Artist and Breakthrough Artist Of The Year awards at the 2019 New Zealand Music Awards. "Soaked" took home the Single Of The Year award.
Benee released a follow up EP, Stella & Steve, near the end of 2019. The song "Supalonely," featuring American singer-songwriter Gus Dapperton, was released in early 2020 and went viral thanks to a dance challenge video on TikTok.
