Y2K is the moniker used by Phoenix-born Ari Starace, an LA-based songwriter, producer and artist. He incorporates elements from Hip Hop, Trap, New Wave and other musical genres, creating fun and different songs. Starace attended Arizona State University, which is where he began his musical journey, posting many tracks to Soundcloud - including a remix of Miley Cyrus' hit "Wrecking Ball". He performed at SxSW in 2016.
bbno$, which is shorthand for "baby no money," is the nickname of beat builder and producer Alexander Gumuchian. The Vancouver, BC native has been active on Soundcloud since 2015. Gumuchian got a big break when an early composition, "Yoyo Tokyo," was used by a hugely popular Chinese dance crew (TFBoys) and became a viral sensation, allowing him to sell out back to back tours in China.
"Lalala" sounds loose and casual, with nonsense lyrics, all by design. A marketing campaign that included Tinder and even Craigslist helped propel the track to the top of Spotify's Viral 50 in July where it stayed in the Top 5 for a month. The app TikTok also played a big part in the songs viral success (just as it did for labelmate Lil Nas X's song of the summer "Old Town Road").
This is the first single from the duo's upcoming collaborative EP, Dream Eater.
