New Medicine
Oct 5, 2014
The Minneapolis alternative-rock quartet New Medicine released their sophomore album, Breaking the Model, on August 25th via Imagen Records. From the intro piano and strings melody of album opener "Breaking the Model" to the final chords of album closer "Boy Like Me," front man and songwriter Jake Scherer wanted to create something different than the band's previous work. The current single from the album is "One Too Many". It's an upbeat rocker that every person who has ever had an alcoholic drink can relate to.
"I hope people appreciate that we pushed the envelope and didn't make the same record twice," Scherer explains. "We tried some new things, but we never lost our attitude or lost sight of where we came from. We want to make rock and roll cool, young, dangerous, and exciting again."
The band consists of three members, Dan Garland (lead guitar), Ryan Guanzon (drums), and Jake Scherer (lead vocals/rhythm guitar). Formed in 2009, New Medicine burst on the scene with their 2010 debut, Race To The Bottom. That album went on to sell over 30,000 copies based on the strength of the music, radio support and a hectic tour schedule. The band has toured alongside the likes of Avenged Sevenfold, Halestorm, Adelita's Way, Hollywood Undead and Stone Sour to name a few.
New Medicine hit the road last month in support of Breaking The Model. They appeared at this year's Aftershock Festival on September 14th. The band will also be hitting a few radios shows in Texas this October before opening a few dates for Pop Evil. New Medicine has also been tapped as the direct support for longtime friends Halestorm on their upcoming US tour that rolls out this coming November and December. The tour kicks off November 11th in Chattanooga and wraps up December 9th in Baton Rouge. The tour will also make stops in Lake Buena Vista, FL, Westbury, NY, Lancaster, PA and Worcester, MA to name a few.
