Multi-million streaming Australian metalcore rockers The Amity Affliction are from Gympie, Queensland, and were formed in 2003. The band's current line-up consists of Joel Birch (lead vocals), Ahren Stringer (bass, vocals), Dan Brown (guitar) and Joe Longobardi (drums). They have released seven studio albums, including "Severed Ties" (2008), "Youngbloods" (2010), "Chasing Ghosts" (2012), "Let the Ocean Take Me" (2014), "This Could Be Heartbreak" (2016) "Misery" (2018) and "Everyone Loves You... Once You Leave Them" in February 2020.
The band are known for their highly personal songs, often dealing with depression, anxiety, death, substance abuse, and suicide, with many lyrics stemming from vocalist Joel Birch's past struggles. Their new single "Like Love" was written by co-vocalist Joel with Ahren, about their friend SK who sadly passed away. The Amity Affliction continues to draw from personal experience and maintains its dedication to facing up to the brutal realities of mental illness within the context of their songs.
Birch is unwavering in his constant use of music as catharsis, and this latest single is no different. The song shifts between positive and negative, hope and hopelessness, and draws on an intimate knowledge of drug use and depression and how the two are often inextricably linked in their personal devastation, while also acknowledging the peace for those who suffer once they are gone.
