G.R.L.
Sep 7, 2014
"Ugly Heart" is the debut single by American girl group G.R.L. from their self-titled EP via Kemosabe/RCA Records. The song features songwriting credits from Ryan Baharloo, Ester Dean, Lukasz Gottwald, John Charles Monds and Henry Walter. This guitar-driven track was released earlier this summer as the lead single from their EP. Dr. Luke backs the group with a ukulele, thumping beat and light synths as they proceed to tell off a good looking guy. "But it's such a pity a boy so pretty with an ugly heart," the group sings. It plays out like a breakup version of the Plain White T's "Hey There Delilah," replacing lovestruck vulnerability with pure kiss-off attitude.
G.R.L. was formed by Robin Antin, and consists of "Party Rock Anthem" singer Lauren Bennett, Paula van Oppen, Natasha Slayton, Emmalyn Estrada and Simone Battle, a finalist on season one of The X Factor U.S. They released the promo single "Vacation" last year on The Smurfs 2 soundtrack and followed it up with the buzz track "Show Me What You Got" back in February. Most recently, G.R.L. hit No. 30 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart as a featured act on Pitbull's hit "Wild Wild Love."
