After a four-year hiatus, the singer-songwriter, Sarah McLachlan, has released the first single from her album Shine On, and the feel-good song is entitled "In Your Shoes". On May 6th, she will be releasing this latest album via Verve Records.
"It isn't about just one thing," McLachlan said when asked to share the meaning behind her song. "It started out as a song about bullying and then Malala [Yousafzai] was shot by the Taliban and that story became big news. She sort of became an inspiration for finishing the song...She's a heroine, for everybody, but these days young girls haven't had a lot of strong role models to look up to, and I think she's just an incredibly positive role model for girls and humanity in general. Obviously, it was a perfect catalyst for me to finish that song."
Known for her emotional ballads and mezzo-soprano vocal range, she has sold over 40 million albums worldwide. McLachlan's best-selling album to date is Surfacing, which she won two Grammy Awards (out of four nominations) and four Juno Awards. In addition to her personal artistic efforts, she founded the Lilith Fair tour, which showcased female musicians on a scale that had never been attempted before. The Lilith Fair concert tours took place from 1997 to 1999, and resumed in the summer of 2010.
Slated to begin in Seattle on June 20th, Mclachlan's tour will have her visiting 30 cities all together and an announcement of a fall Canadian leg of the tour is expected soon.
