Lauv is the stage name for Ari Staprans Leff. He began writing songs at an early age in his hometown of San Francisco. He soon began experimenting with musical instruments. In 2008, when he was 14, he released his first solo project, Somersault Sunday, posting it on MySpace. This was followed by a number of EP releases.
While in college, he focused on writing and producing for other artists and adopted the name Lauv. The first song he released under the new moniker was "The Other". After posting it to SoundCloud in 2015, the song went viral and it landed on the Global Spotify chart.
This was followed by the global smash, “I Like Me Better.” It tallied over 2 billion streams, while reaching Top 10 chart positioning at Top 40 radio and Top 5 chart positioning at Hot AC radio in the US, went sextuple-Platinum in the US and Platinum in twelve other countries.
He served up the Gold-selling 2018 playlist "I Met You When I Was 18" and the Gold-selling 2020 debut album ~how i’m feeling~ along with a procession of hits, including the Platinum hit “I’m So Tired” with Troye Sivan, as well as Gold-certified singles, “There’s No Way” (feat. Julia Michaels) and “F*ck, I’m Lonely” (feat. Anne-Marie).
In between selling out headline tours and supporting Ed Sheeran in stadiums, he has performed on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel LIVE!, The Late Late Show with James Corden, and more.
Lauv’s second full-length album, All 4 Nothing, was released in August 2022 and features the singles “26", “All 4 Nothing (I’m So In Love),” “Kids Are Born Stars,” and “Stranger.”
In April, Lauv announced dates for his "in between albums tour" and in June, he released the song "Steal The Show", which was featured in the Pixar film, Elemental.
"Love U Like That" was released in June as the singer's newest single.
