Bazzi was born August 28, 1997, in the Detroit suburb of Canton, Michigan. He learned a variety of musical instruments as a child and soon began posting his songs – mostly covers – on YouTube. He moved to Los Angeles as a teen to pursue a career in music.
After creating an account on the social media app Vine, he soon gathered over a million followers. In 2017, one song, “Mine” caught the attention of industry executives, who signed him to a deal. The song became a Top 15 Pop hit in 2018, while his debut album Cosmic was released, also peaking Top 15. That year, Camila Cabello picked Bazzi as special guest on her US tour. Justin Timberlake also invited the artist to join him on his European tour that year.
Bazzi continued to record and release singles, and in 2019, released his debut mixtape, Soul Searching.
During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the singer tweeted to followers that he contracted the disease earlier that year. He revealed he’d struggled with mental health and substance abuse while quarantining. In an interview with Elvis Duran, the singer said the last year and a half “wasn’t good” for him. He is currently working on new music before returning to live performances.
