Singer-songwriter Dean Lewis was born October 21, 1985 in Sydney, Australia.
He credits the UK band Oasis with inspiring him to make music a career. While making a living as a sound engineer and setting up live shows for other artists, Lewis would upload music to his YouTube page in his spare time. Years later, a friend introduced him to someone working in music publishing, which led to him writing songs for other artists.
He signed with Island Records in 2016 and released the single "Waves" from his debut EP, Same Kind Of Different. The song became a Top 15 hit in his home country. It has been certified 5x Platinum and featured in several TV shows. The song earned him five ARIA Awards nominations in 2017. When it was released that year in the US, it received moderate airplay at AAA and Hot AC radio.
2018 saw the release of "Be Alright" which became a hit around the globe, reaching #1 in Australia. In the US, the single far surpassed his earlier effort, reaching #1 at Hot AC and Top 15 at Pop radio.
Lewis' debut album, A Place We Knew, arrived in March 2019. The album's tracks include "Waves," along with earlier singles from his debut EP. The song was reserviced to US Hot AC radio in July, this time remixed by Grammy-winning producer Timbaland.
