Tenille Townes

Columbia Nashville's Tenille Townes will release "Train Track Worktapes," a five-song EP, on April 21st. The Canadian Country Music Association Entertainer of the Year and two-time JUNO Award winner conceived, wrote, and recorded the project while on a nearly 3,000-mile charity train trip. A Canadian tradition, the CP Holiday Train benefits local food banks, with each attendee bringing donations for a free concert. Townes and her band spent 15 days on the train and played 65 shows in communities across Canada.
Townes co-produced the project with guitarist Jaxon Hargrove. The band substituted everyday items for instruments, with a suitcase turned into a kick drum, tin foil and paper bowls becoming a shaker, and teacups being used for a triangle. Townes said, "Being in motion is my favorite state. I love the hum of the engines and the blur of the evergreens out the window, in any mode of transportation. I really do believe that home is not a place, but a feeling that you get. And being on the road, singing songs for people, and feeling a part of a collective brought together through music, that feels like home to me."
