Country artist Mark Chesnutt was presented with the first-ever Trailblazer Award for serving as spokenperson for the Texas Country Music Association (TCMA) during their 2017 awards ceremony. Due to an unexpected illness, Chesnutt was unable to attend, but his friend/co-writer, Roger Springer, accepted the award in his honor.
"It was unfortunate that Mark got ill and could not make it to the Awards show," TCMA Founder Linda Wilson expressed. “He was missed, but the Finalists and Award Recipients, along with amazing performances, made the '2017 Texas Country Music Awards' show an evening that will go down in history." Chesnutt added, “I am very sorry to have missed such a special event. Receiving the Trail Blazer award from my home state is such an honor, and I am thankful for my friend Roger Springer for accepting it in my absence.”
