Capital Cities

"Vowels" is the new single out now by the L.A. band, Capital Cities via Capitol Records. It is their first new music in more than three years and six years since they released their chart topper, "Safe & Sound." "Vowels" is a relaxed pop song with a hint of electronic funk about it with synth-tinged brass punctuating the meter. "There's a freight train of emotion stuck in my lung/ I need to get it out, get it out before it's all gone/ So I'll just speak in vowels from now on," they sing on the opening verse. Capital Cities mean what they promise, getting literal on the chorus by invoking vowels like "A," "O" and "E." The song will appear on both a forthcoming EP from the pair and the soundtrack to the FIFA 17 video game.
Capital Cities member, Sebu Simonian said of the song, "When you can't express yourself with words, sometimes you just want to scream to get it all out. You need vowels to do that!"
Capital Cities was formed in 2010 by Ryan Merchant (vocals, keyboard & guitar) and Sebu Simonian (vocals & keyboard). Their debut EP was released in 2011, with lead single "Safe and Sound" becoming their first top ten hit single. The band's debut album, "In a Tidal Wave of Mystery," was released in 2013. The band currently consists of Ryan Merchant, Sebu Simonian, Manny Quintero on bass guitar, Spencer Ludwig on trumpet, Nick Merwin on guitar and Channing Holmes on drums.
Capital Cities will support their new EP by hitting the road for a string of seven US tour dates, beginning November 1st at Washington DC's The 9:30 Club and wrapping November 23rd at L.A.'s Fonda Theatre.
