New Beat Fund
Nov 12, 2015
The L.A.-based band, New Beat Fund's new single is "Sikka Takin The Hard Way." This fun and carefree track is off their debut album, "Sponge Fingerz" out now via Red Bull Records. The collection inspirations range from the end of relationships, touring on a hangover and finding bargain-bin dancehall records. The Matt Wallace (Faith No More, Maroon 5) produced album was mixed by Tony Hoffer (Foster The People, Beck) and recorded at L.A.'s legendary Sound City Studios.
"When people meet us, they say, 'You guys are weird, but it's fun!'" says New Beat Fund front-man, Michael Johnson. "We want people to be cool with being weird and thinking about things differently. The name of our record is 'Sponge Fingerz'. What the fuck is that? It's what we are as a band, there's no definition--we're able to be free. We wrote the record in Topanga Canyon--the freest place ever--we live in Southern California...that's the whole vibe of our band. Just being weird and free."
New Beat Fund is made up of Michael Johnson, Jeff Laliberte, Shelby Archer and Paul Laliberte. Despite just releasing their debut album a few months ago, the guys have been at it for a couple years now. They released an EP called "Coinz" and even toured with the likes of blink-182 and 3OH!3.
