White Sea
Feb 23, 2014
L.A. singer/songwriter Morgan Kibby, a.k.a. White Sea, is releasing her first new solo material since 2011's This Frontier, called In Cold Blood due sometime this year via Crush Records. The first single is the epic and captivating track called "They Don't Know." It features sweeping, orchestral arrangements (that we'd definitely expect to hear from someone who worked with M83), plus some bellowing vocals. Opening with a multitracked chorus of "ooooh-oooh-ooohs" accented with a smattering of electronic effects, "They Don't Know" leads right into Morgan's booming vocals ("They don't know what we know/ They can't see what we see") before peaking into an energy-filled rush of echoing bells, lush harmonies, and crashing electronic drums.
Morgan is best known for collaborations and frequent touring with French electronic group M83. In 2008 she contributed keys and arrangements for the band's acclaimed release Saturdays=Youth, and co-wrote the songs "Kim & Jessie", "Up!", "Too Late" and "Skin of the Night". She also received a shared production credit on the album and toured extensively with the group around the world in support of the release.
In 2011, she returned to the studio with M83 to contribute to their sixth album, Hurry Up, We're Dreaming, providing vocals, keyboards, and arrangements. She co-wrote the songs "Intro", "Reunion", and the album's ubiquitous lead single "Midnight City", which enjoyed massive chart success globally and has sold over 920,000 tracks in the U.S. alone. Also a venerable remix artist, Kibby has remixed tracks for a range of artists including: School of Seven Bells, Lord Huron, The Naked and Famous, Brittney Spears, Active Child, Manchester Orchestra, Kevin Devine, Demi Lovato, Imagine Dragons, New Politics and more.
Following tour dates with Phantogram, White Sea will play at SXSW, Sasquatch Festival and tour with The Naked & Famous.
