Parlor Mob
Sep 12, 2011
Parlor Mob is from Asbury Park, New Jersey, consisting of five childhood friends; Mark Melicia sings, David Rosen and Paul Ritchie both play guitar, Sam Bey plays drums, and Anthony Chick plays bass.
In September of 2007, the band traveled to Echo Mountain Studios and made their first album, titled And You Were A Crow, with producer Jacquire King (responsible for albums by Tom Waits, Modest Mouse, and Kings of Leon). By Halloween the album was complete and released in May of 2008. The next two years the band continuously toured in support of the album. Their live show was quickly enhanced as they continued to tour. They found new and different ways to express what they wanted to through performing.
After returning home from traveling the world they began to write again for the next album. This process proved to be more draining than anything they had done before. After the first few months, the band parted ways with their bassist, Nick Villapiano and was replaced by Anthony Chick.
In the winter of 2010, they finished writing Dogs. From February through mid-March 2011, they were at Wire Recordings in Austin, TX recording with a friend, producer Matt Radosevich. Matt engineered And You Were A Crow, and the band remained close with him through the three years between albums.
Dogs is said to be the culmination of everything that has led them to this point, all the internal and external struggles that have made Parlor Mob who they are. It serves the downtrodden of our times, who can feel their struggle reflected in ours. The album is titled Dogs because it is a personification of everything they all have become and a wide-reaching, never-ending analogy for what we currently feel; a unified stamp of our lives in this moment.
There are themes within the album ranging from self-doubt, longing and discontent to rejuvenation, hope and love. Musically it is the equivalent of the turmoil of their lives, shifting as it goes from the desperately immense and cinematic, to the aggressive and powerful, to the quiet and calm. "Into The Sun" is the first single, and it carries with it a message open to interpretation. The album Dogs is set to be released on October 11th.
