Beach Weather

Boston 3-piece Beach Weather -- Nick Santino [vocals, guitar], Reeve Powers [bass], and Sean Silverman [guitar/production] -- set the stage for summer with single "Unloveable (f/Pale Waves)" via Arista. The new version attived on June 2nd. It's follow up to the band's massive breakthrough #1 lead single "Sex, Drugs, Etc." from the band's debut full length album, Pineapple Sunrise.
Beach Weather had this to say about Pale Waves on the new version of the song, "We're absolutely thrilled to have Heather featured on Unlovable. Her voice is so distinct and heavenly. I remember hearing their song 'She's My Religion' and thinking how incredible it would be to collaborate together one day. We loved the idea of having a contrasting vocal to put a different perspective on Unlovable. From the minute we started tracking with her, everything felt elevated. She really helped lift the chorus and we absolutely loved her take on the second verse. Sometimes it's a challenge to imagine another voice inside the world of your songs, then you hear it for the first time through a different lens and it feels special all over again."
"Unlovable" begins with a laidback verse punctuated by claps that culminate on a chantable chorus awash in fuzzy distortion as Nick pleads, "Oh no, oh my God, how’d I get so damn unlovable?" Regarding the track, he, "Unlovable" is vulnerable, insecure and self deprecating… and that’s what makes it so lovable.
"In a way, it’s a self-deprecating anthem," added Nick. "You feel crazy, you’re trying to figure out your own brain, and you’re locked out of your own head. You ask, 'Why am I unlovable?' It’s a relatable idea though. Musically, there’s a lot of energy to it. It’s one of the heavier rock tracks, but it’s still Beach Weather."
Sean notes, "We had been building all of these ideas in our heads of what we thought we needed to be and whether we could be satisfied with who we actually were. I think in a way it’s about questioning your own value. Wondering if you'll ever truly be enough and never completely meeting expectations. At the same time being satisfied knowing that it's human to feel that way."
With various musical experiences under their respective belts, Beach Weather initially formed back in 2015. The friendship between Nick and Sean even dated back at least a decade prior. As the story goes, they served up a series of EPs - Chit Chat, What A Drag, and Basement Sessions - and logged quite a few miles on the road, building an audience one show at a time. After mutually parting ways in 2017, the guys "talked almost every day."
By 2020, they started writing music again. Around the same time, "Sex, Drugs, Etc." organically caught fire. A sync on Spanish-language NETFLIX drama Control Z stirred up initial buzz while on social media, TikTok users implemented the song in a myriad of ways, touching every facet of culture from Stranger Things to K-pop. The success transferred over to streaming platforms as the track has amassed over 100 million streams and counting.
Regarding the success of "Sex, Drugs, Etc." Nick admits, "We never thought ‘Sex, Drugs, Etc.’ would be the song people gravitate to…I can relate to the meaning of it personally. It’s about having anxiety. I don’t really go out. I’m not a big party guy. I’m the opposite; I’m a homebody. It’s amazing to see a lot of listeners identify with it."
Following performances at Shaky Knees, Hangout, and BottleRock music festivals, Beach Weather began a tour with lovelytheband on June 6th. Find the tour dates here.
