Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Aug 24, 2022
New York City 3-piece Yeah Yeah Yeahs are back with a new single "Burning" on Secretly Canadian. It's from the band's forthcoming fifth album, Cool It Down, out September 30th. It's the Yeah Yeah Yeahs first album in 9 years. The Andrew Wyatt-produced track built over a piano loop was inspired by The Four Seasons’ “Beggin.”
Karen O said, "If the world is on fire, I hope the most beloved stay protected and that we do all we can to protect what we cherish most in this life. ‘Burning’ is a song about that feeling, smoke signals for the soul. Begging to cool it down, just doing it the best we know how. Nick and I nodded to Frankie Valli’s ‘Begging,’ with the line ‘oooh lay your red hand on me baby.’ We’ve cut a rug to many a soulful sixties bangers in our day, it was in our DNA by the time we wrote ‘Burning.’"
When the Yeah Yeah Yeahs announced its forthcoming 8-track album, they shared the Dave Sitek-produced song “Spitting Off the Edge of the World” featuring Perfume Genius.
The group is composed of vocalist and pianist Karen O (born Karen Lee Orzolek), guitarist and keyboardist Nick Zinner, and drummer Brian Chase. According to an interview that aired during ABC's Live from Central Park SummerStage series, the band's name was taken from modern New York City vernacular. The band has recorded four studio albums; the first, Fever to Tell, was released in 2003. The second, Show Your Bones, was released in 2006. Their third studio album, It's Blitz! was released in March 2009. All three albums earned the band Grammy nominations for Best Alternative Music Album. Their fourth album, Mosquito, was released in April 2013.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs will be playing Riot Fest in Chicago and have headlining shows on October 1st at Forest Hills Stadium in New York and October 6th at Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.
