UK 4-piece The 1975 have returned with a new single "Part Of The Band" via Dirty Hit. The lyrics for "Part Of The Band" were posted by lead singer Matty Healy on Instagram ahead of the release. The new song is from the band's forthcoming fifth album, Being Funny In A Foreign Language, due October 14th. The album was recorded at Real World Studios in Wiltshire, United Kingdom, and Electric Lady Studios in New York. The 1975's last album, Notes On A Conditional Form, released in 2020, became their fourth consecutive No. 1 album in the UK.
Formed in Manchester in 2002, The 1975 have established themselves as one of the defining bands of their generation with their distinctive aesthetic, ardent fanbase and unique sonic approach. They are made up of lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Matthew "Matty" Healy, lead guitarist Adam Hann, bassist Ross MacDonald, and drummer George Daniel. The band was opening for several major acts and released a series of extended plays (Facedown, Sex, Music for Cars, IV) throughout 2012 before releasing their UK chart-topping self-titled debut album (2013).
Their second album, I Like It When You Sleep, for You Are So Beautiful yet So Unaware of It (2016), reached No. 1 in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Following the touring cycle for the record, the band announced their third album under the working title of Music For Cars, before going on hiatus again throughout 2017. Returning in 2018, the band announced that the album had evolved into their third campaign cycle, consisting of their third and fourth studio albums. The first, A Brief Inquiry into Online Relationships (2018), was released to widespread critical acclaim, and became their third No. 1 album in the UK. The second, Notes on a Conditional Form, was released in May 2020 and became their fourth consecutive No. 1 album in the UK.
The band was named NME’s ‘Band Of The Decade’ in 2020 after being crowned ‘Best Group’ at the BRIT Awards in both 2017 & 2019. Their third studio album, A Brief Inquiry into Online Relationships, also won Mastercard British Album of the Year at the 2019 ceremony.
The 1975 will make their live comeback as the headliners of Japan’s biggest rock festival Summer Sonic 2022 in August.
