Weezer returns with "A Little Bit Of Love" from the band's SZNS: Spring (EP), which arrived on the first day of Spring (3/20). Jangly ukulele and harmonica get the tune started before broader instrumentation kicks in, as front man Rivers Cuomo sings: "A little bit, a little bit of love / Goes a pretty long way / Take a look at where you started from / And where you are today / You climbed mountains, swam oceans / You got knocked down, and kept going / In the end you know you've got to say / A little bit of love goes a pretty long way." The positive vibe of the track continues from there, with Cuomo singing about rising above adversity and spreading joy to those around you.
It's the first of four SZNZ EP's Weezer will release in 2022 with SZNZ: Summer, SZNZ: Autumn, and SZNZ: Winter to be released at the start of every season. Each EP will offer its own palette of colors, creatures, and emotions to explore. Weezer debuted their new single "A Little Bit Of Love" on March 21st as the first installment of a seasonal residency they will be doing throughout the year on Jimmy Kimmel Live!
"This year we're releasing four EPs inspired by magic, Pagan myths, religious rituals, Vivaldi's The Four Seasons, Shakespeare and more (so much more)," the band tweeted when announcing the project, promising that each EP "will take you on an enchanting journey."
"A Little Bit Of Love" was first teased via a Google spreadsheet shared by Rivers Cuomo on his Discord channel as well as on Riverpedia. The sheet compiled various planned concepts for Weezer's upcoming album series SZNZ, listing "A Little Bit of Love" as the lead single for Spring. Cuomo later confirmed the song's placement as the lead single on February 18 via his Discord server. Cuomo uploaded a ten-second clip of the song on his Discord channel on February 25. He uploaded the clip as part of a video on his Tik Tok account on February 26. On March 1, the official Weezer YouTube account would upload it to their channel, under the title "Before you know it Spring will be here."
The Los Angeles band’s lineup is Rivers Cuomo (vocals, guitar, piano), Brian Bell (backing vocals, guitar), Scott Shriner (backing vocals, bass), and Pat Wilson (drums). Weezer released their self-titled debut album, also known as the Blue Album, in May 1994 featuring hit singles "Buddy Holly," "Undone – The Sweater Song," and "Say It Ain't So." Previous releases from the band are Pinkerton (1996), Weezer (Green Album) (2001), Maladroit (2002), Make Believe (2005), Weezer (Red Album) (2008), Raditude (2009), Hurley (2010), Everything Will Be Alright in the End (2014), Weezer (White Album) (2016), Pacific Daydream (2017), Weezer (Teal Album) (2019), Weezer (Black Album) (2019), OK Human (2021), and Van Weezer (2021).
