Whole Damn Mess

Los Angeles band Whole Damn Mess deliver their new self-released single "Some Big Something" via CO5 Music. It comes from their latest album with the same title released in November 2021. Band member Don Miggs said about the single, "We are super excited about 'Some Big Something' because it feels like the relative to 'Nothing in The World Feels Better' (a previous release). It’s another song about embracing the beauty of being and living. Being OK where you are but not giving up if what you like to do is dream big. Can’t wait for it to be in the world."
The full band consists of Don Miggs, C. Todd Nielsen, Lawrence Katz, and Greg Hansen. Miggs sings and plays guitar, mostly, but he says, "We all sing and play all instruments! The band came together when C Todd Nielsen (keyboards, guitar, vocals) and Lawrence Katz (guitars, vocals) came to my studio with the intent that we three songwriters and producers would make music. It turns out the music we made felt like the music we should be doing instead of anyone else, so we decided to make a go of it. And then we brought in one of our best friends and most talented musicians, Greg Hansen, and we felt complete!!"
The band's creative process, according to Miggs, developed a specific DNA so it’s easier to determine what gets worked on. "We are four writers and producers, so we are constantly making music for some artists and honing the craft. All that feeds WDM because we can be very specific about what this music IS. Any one of us has an idea and we drop it on the pile. If someone picks it up, we do more. We aren’t precious about it. Then we pass it around and work on some additive parts. And when we are together, we keep sculpting it."
Whole Damn Mess represents the union of lifelong musicians and friends with a mind-blowing collective pedigree. Don founded and led Miggs to international popularity (in addition to collaborating with everyone from Billy Corgan to Mick Fleetwood- who happens to beat the hell out of the drums on a track), Lawrence has been the long-time guitar player for The Mighty Mighty BossTones, while C. Todd and Greg have found success in their side project Floyd Wonder. In addition, they all write and produce for film and TV, as well as upcoming and established artists in their spare time.
Explaining Whole Big Mess, Greg said, “Musically, we all figured out what this band is what we do well- Big themes in small catch phrases. A pointed look at the realities of life and then saying, “isn’t it still the best?!"
Don added, "We’ve never lived in a better time, and it’s never been more chaotic. We are a respite from the challenges of being upright and a deep look at the everyday struggles, yet still standing up and saying, ‘Let’s do this’.”
Whole Damn Mess will hit the road for a spring tour beginning April 20th in Cincinnati and ending May 7th in New York.
