Wet Leg
Dec 9, 2021
UK two-piece Wet Leg lay some fun on the format with their lead single "Chaise Longue" via Domino. It's from the band's self-titled debut album due out April 8th. "Chaise Longue" was mixed by Alan Moulder (Arctic Monkeys, Beach House, Foals). The tongue-in-cheek single with a suitably irrepressible video was directed by the band themselves.
Wet Leg's Rhian Teasdale said, "Chaise Longue is the result of a sleepover that accidentally went on for 6 weeks. Whenever I stay over, Hester always makes the chaise longue in her flat into a cute nest for me. We spent night after night staying up stupidly late making cookies, painting, glueing tiny gems to our guitar pedals and having silly impromptu midnight jams. Chaise Longue came from that space and place in time."
Wet Leg’s Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers were catapulted from their confines on the Isle Of Wight to sold out venues across the UK and packed-out tents at festivals causing giddy excitement wherever they went. The duo recently unveiled two new songs -- "Too Late Now" and "Oh No" -- alongside news of their debut album. They have also released a song called "Wet Dream."
The album was mostly recorded in London, in April 2021, meaning they had a finished album before the world had even heard debut single "Chaise Longue" or played live. "I guess how it happened was unconventional," admits Chambers. Right from the start of Wet Leg, Teasdale and Chambers focus was fun, and a dry sense of humour ripples through the album. "I wanted to write fun songs, I didn't want to indulge sad feelings too much, I wanted to write stuff that's fun to listen to and fun to play,” added Teasdale. "But then, the sad seeps through, as well."
The band's first U.S. shows include multiple December shows in New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. Wet Leg was the music guest December 8th on Late Night With Seth Meyers.
