Seventeen Going Under is the second studio album by English musician Sam Fender. The album was released on October 8th through Polydor/Interscope. The album explores Fender's upbringing and how it’s undeniably crept into his current day worldwide, exploring both his outwards nihilism as well as his internal self-examination. The title track “Seventeen Going Under” has already racked up over 27 million streams on Spotify and is the newest single. Fender collaborated on a version of the song with Holly Humberstone. Four singles were released ahead of the album: the title track, "Aye", "Get You Down" and "Spit of You." The album has become Fender's second number one album in the UK Albums chart and Scottish albums chart.
The 27 year old Fender began his career as an actor. He was signed as a singer and released several singles independently, being named one of the BBC's Sound of 2018. He signed to Polydor and released his debut EP, Dead Boys, in November 2018. He won the Critics' Choice Award at the 2019 Brit Awards and released his debut album, Hypersonic Missiles, in September 2019. The album entered the UK Albums Chart at No. 1. And now his latest album hit No. 1 as well.
Fender attended John Spence Community High School and the sixth form college of Whitley Bay High School, attending the latter alongside bandmate Joe Atkinson. He was bullied for being overweight and unathletic as a child but found musically minded friends at high school. During and after college he had a number of jobs, working in a call center, a restaurant, and a local pub where he was subsequently discovered by his manager.
At the age of 20, Fender had a big scare when he was diagnosed with a potentially life-threatening illness. Shortly after, his father moved to France. His father, Alan, and brother, Liam, are also both singer-songwriters; Liam also plays drums and piano. Fender started playing the guitar when he was ten and began to write songs at 14.
Fender embarks on a UK tour in March of 2022.
