New York duo Lewis Del Mar put out their double single “The Ceiling / Border (CH. III)” and a video ahead of their sophomore album “August” which was just released today on August 21^st via FADER Label. The double single marked the first new music from Lewis Del Mar since their 2016 self-titled debut. The pair recorded “August” for over two years, beginning in a Rockaway Beach bungalow they converted into a studio. Recording started in the summer of 2017 as they grappled with an altered sense of normalcy after their first major tour and the release of their debut album. On this new collection, Lewis Del Mar polishes and intensifies the sound introduced on their debut, employing Latin percussion indebted to member Danny’s Nicaraguan heritage, and expanding upon the adventurous arrangements that first garnered them praise. The tension between the manic and reflective periods the band endured breathes new meaning into the songs.

“This album is, nearly word for word, our account of gluing the vase back together, cracks visible,” according to Lewis Del Mar. “It’s hard to write a story while it’s happening. We started out with the intention to write about a moment, but we needed to process it. And when we tried to work with new collaborators, it didn’t quite feel like us.”

Lewis Del Mar is made up of childhood friends Danny Miller and Max Harwood. They first received attention in early 2015 when their debut single “Loud(y)” was featured in the number one spot on Hype Machine. The duo released their debut EP and self-titled debut album on Columbia Records in 2016.
