Overcoats

“The Fool” is the latest single from the critically acclaimed Brooklyn duo, Overcoats. Out now via Loma Vista/Concord, this is an empowering anthem whose glistening synths and dynamic chants cut through the noise and leaves a lasting impression.
Of the new project, Overcoats members Hana and JJ share, “we often use songwriting as a way to wrestle with our doubts about love, but this is the opposite. It’s a way to be proud and take a stand in the face of doubt. It’s about not giving up.”
“We wrote it based on ‘The Fool’ tarot card,” says JJ. “It signifies taking a leap of faith and jumping into the unknown. Conceptually, it felt like the beginning of the project. We wiped the slate clean and decided to jump. That’s why the video includes the footage of us shaving our heads. We’re ‘The Fool’ and we’re taking our leap. It’s an empowering message,” continues Hana. “I don’t need to be defined by the opinions of others or go with the status quo; I can fxcking be myself.”
The New York duo of Overcoats consists of singer-songwriters Hana Elion and JJ Mitchell. The two best friends met in college at Wesleyan University and bonded by singing harmonies together to their favorite records. They both describe the first time hearing each other sing as an epiphany: the harmony of their voices leading to personal, individual discovery. It lead them to start Overcoats. Their debut album, “Young,” was released in 2017.
Overcoats are currently on tour with Cold War Kids with dates all over the U.S. until the end of February.
