Yelawolf

“Opie Taylor” is a new single found on the Alabama rapper, Yelawolf’s just released sixth studio album, “Ghetto Cowboy” out now at Alternative Radio via Slumerican. This track references the redhead boy from “The Andy Griffith Show” popular in the 1960s. Full of bittersweet reflections on Yela’s childhood, this song is drastically different from his previous single “Unnatural Born Killer” that gained more than 220,000 views on YouTube in a week. “Ghetto Cowboy” is Yelawolf’s second independent studio album, after his 2005 debut “Creekwater,” and his first since departing from Eminem's imprint Shady Records. The album's title is a homage to the 1998 hit single of the same name by the hip hop collective Mo Thugs.
When asked about putting “Ghetto Cowboy” together, Yelawolf explains, “This ‘Ghetto Cowboy’ album has been the most gratifying to me as an artist being that it’s my first indie release on my own label. I have no one to answer to and that can be a scary responsibility. After ‘Love Story’, ‘Trial By Fire’ and then ‘Trunk Muzik 3’, I feel like I got a well-rounded project that speaks to all the fans; Hip Hop, rock’n’roll, and southern fans alike. I ain’t reinventing the wheel here, just doing what I love to do, doing what I think is dope and original. I never want to stop challenging the genre or the listener or become complacent or settled cause that’s boring as fuck to me and the fans. G.C. is unapologetic, brutally honest and at times completely vulnerable.”
Michael Wayne Atha, better known by his stage name Yelawolf embarked on his career in 2005, releasing independent solo material from then until 2010. It was not until 2010's “Trunk Muzik” EP that Yelawolf started to gain mainstream attention. Later that year, he released the full album, “Trunk Muzik 0-60.” The musician went onto to put out “Radioactive” (2011), “Love Story” (2015), “Trial By Fire” (2017) and then “Trunk Muzik III”, was released on March 29th 2019.
“Ghetto Cowboy” is currently being supported with the 28-date GHETTO COWBOY TOUR which kicked off in early October in Grand Junction, CO and it wrap on November 24 in Louisville, KY. The tour will also make stops in Los Angeles, Toronto, New York City and Chicago. Find the upcoming tour dates here.
